    Thanks for the reply. I'm in USA and it does persist while playing audio. If it helps, the hum immediately goes away when I disconnect the cord from the Ceres speakers. And while it is still connected to the sub, if i touch the end of the cable the sound comes right back. I doubt the power...

    Correct, you don't lose the license for Windows just because the hard drive dies. When you start swapping out CPU's and motherboards, then you start to run into trouble re-using keys. Since you're using this for college I would agree and put the SSD in the Toshiba.

    Another thing to add... have you checked both ASUS' and Toshiba's support pages to see if there are Windows 10 drivers available now? That may make the decision easier.

    Do you use these 2 equally? And what kind of work/gaming do you do on them? I would install the SSD in the laptop that I used the most. Or if you have one that you shut down more often, you could install it in that one since boot/shut-down speeds are much quicker.
