I think they can hit over 100. They won't usually shut down unless there is pretty much zero cooling, they just throttle down. All I can suggest is cracking it open again and checking everything. Check the black thermal pads on the back cover are actually making good contact with the heatsinks.

Mac laptops don't have the best thermal dissipation and very quiet fan profiles. First check if your fans are actually working. Download Fan Speed Controller and setup a more aggressive fan profile. Make sure at idle nothing else is using the cpu and that temps are normal.

Any messages they send will be to an email address. They can't send a message to a specific machine.

Unlikely. The crack may grow, it may not. I believe the glass is not bonded to the screen in those models? Putting some tape over the crack can stop or slow it from growing.

An SD card will be MUCH slower than a slow SSD. SSD's get much closer to their rated maximums than SD cards. That SD is rated at 100Mb/s. You'd be lucky to get half of that, whereas a decent nvme SSD will get at least 2,500Mb/s of it's 3,200. Even if that SD gets its full 100, it's 25x slower.
