so I would need a amp to connect the speakers to then connect my device to the amp and it would work. are amps cheap and how big does the amp have to be? -

I've got a old stereo that I want to take the speakers from but they need to be connected to the speaker for it to work so can I like take a 3.5mm headphone jack plug the speaker wires to the wires on the jack and it would work?
