My guess is that It comes down to what you want to do most of the time. Also, it depends on the types of games you want to play. Unless you subscribe to your Cellular Providers Tethering plan I'm afraid there is no legal way to do this. But if you do have the tethering plan as @Jpishgar stated enable the hotspot on your phone, then connect to the hotspot using the WiFi interface of your tablet.
