Malware consumes a lot of PC resources, so obviously it does lower gaming performance. As for an anti-virus, I would recommend ESET NOD32. I've also heard good things about Kaspersky and Avast! .

Do you have any plug-ins on Mozilla that could be causing it? Also, do you necessarily need to use Mozilla as well as Chrome?

Does your RAM peak during these freezes? (Does it reach 80,90 or 100%?) You can check that by having Task Manager open or by looking at a RAM meter.
