ll i know is that password protected. Nothing was mentioned about encryption

I was given the incorrect password to the drive, when I entered the password I got a message that the wrong password had been entered too many times and the drive had to be reformatted. I have not yet tried anything else

I only received this hard drive of data yesterday, my plan was to copy contents onto my hard drive - and i have another external hard drive next to me that I use for backups
