Thanks for your time, must have damaged the motherboard when I first installed it. Oh well, will look at the sound card you recommended.

Ok, I'm running Ubuntu off of a spare hard drive I had lying around. No sound, still got white noise. Doubt I could get an RMA. So, looks like I'm getting a sound card then.

Uninstalled. Upon rebooting a message pops up "high definition audio device" is installed, white noise returns once it finishes, still no sound.
