We have DirectTV and a recording box sohe can record his shows and watch them when he can't sleep. Is that digital cable? I know I could ask the cable company or vendor but I don't want to just be sold a line - or things I don't need.

I know nothing about televisions really, but need to get a new smart TV for the hubby-unit. Will I need an HDMI cable if we have digital cable service? Do those two things have anything to do with each other? I just want him to be able to plug it in and go...so he'll need whatever accessories...
