The problem has been fixed. I talked to our IT guy and he said that it's dead, so I bought a new one.

My Acer Aspire 5252 won't turn on properly, It shows the Acer logo and then goes to a black screen. The HDD is inactive but I can hear the CPU cooler working. I just opened it all up and cleaned it out but it's still doing exactly the same thing. What happened?

It could be that simple... but you probably need to get a bios update and hope that it provides compatibility for additional CPUs. This tells you how to update the BIOS...

Don't get the Acer it has a terrible CPU. Some things that you probably already know... 1. The HP is slightly cheaper and has a slightly (0.1GHz) better CPU 2. The HP also has integrated graphics unfortunately they're intel (not great.) 3. The ASUS has a bigger screen with a higher resolution...

The inspiron has a slightly better CPU, unless you plan to overclock in which case the ideapad is the better way to go. According to customer reviews the dell is terrible (2 stars, 4 ratings) and the lenovo is great (4.5 stars, 118 ratings.) (Ratings on amazon.com US)

That's the same socket but the CPU isn't much of an upgrade and may not even be compatible with your motherboard.
