Posting what make/model of laptops you have would be very helpful. Generally, all you can reuse would be HD (assuming interface and physical size are the same), RAM (assuming types and speeds are the same), maybe the optical drive and wifi card among a few other things.

You'll have to disassemble your laptop to see if the CPU is soldered in or not. Can't tell how compatible your laptop would be with the higher-powered CPU. I (unfortunately) have quite a bit of experience disassembling and assembling an Acer 5560 so it only took me 10-15 minutes UGing the CPU...

Did you say coke on the MB? If it is sugary cola and not the white powder, the MB could be fried.

If you find one (MB) cheap enough, it should work. Otherwise you have to make the call whether spending on a new machine is better value.

Which Acer? I'm going to say you have a dead/dying MB or drive if it works for 5 mins and then BSODs.

It appears Dell only supports the Inspiron 6000 until Win XP. Perhaps pushing it a bit to use 8.1 and 10 on your machine with no drivers. How are you connecting the computer to the TV? Via VGA port? http://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/product-support/product/inspiron-6000/drivers

Could be a bad drive, or one developing bad sectors. Give chkdsk 2-3 hours, maybe even overnight, depending on size of drive especially if there are bad sectors. You may want to backup the drive after you finish and think of getting a new one.
