I have a HP EliteBook 840 that powers on immediately upon connecting a charger. The system does not boot, the CAPS keys is constantly on. The power LED is on. The fan is not spinning. The CPU is heating up. The power key does not power down the device. Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks for your reply. I was more interested to know the Core-m performance *in this machine* given it's thermal design parameters. I already have a 5Y71 but knowing the theoretical specs on paper is no substitute for the actual hardware implementation.

Throttling thresholds are controlled by the BIOS. How hot does your machine get and which Core-m processor is it?

Has anyone any details of the performance of this machine with the 5Y71 CPU? All the reviews that I've found are with the 5Y10 processor but it has lower clock speeds compared to the 5Y71 and yet it's not clear which would be the better system to get in terms of an optimum performance consideration.
