Problem somewhat solved. Removed SIM card and did a factory reset. Now it just asks the minute I power it up, as opposed to repeatedly asking me later, too. I can live with that for $58US.

Have you tried going into settings? At the bottom of the list if you scroll down, it usually says "About Tablet". If you tap this, another column of choices will appear. Tap on "Hardware Info". It should at least show a model number. If you Google that number, perhaps you can find more...

I purchased an LG G Pad f7.0 last week. Every time I fire it up, it tries to get me to register for a Sprint data plan. I have no use for a mobile data plan, my wi-fi is enough for me. Wish I could get this thing to stop trying to sign me up. Any ideas?

If the laptop still does everything you need it to do, and if you're sure the fan is shot, I think it would be silly to not fix it for the cost of a $15 fan, whether you decide to keep it or not. I say go for it. :)

No help with your decision (sorry), but I personally coudn't live with a laptop referred to as a. "Fangbook", no matter how good it is.

When was the last time you cleaned the dust out of the fan(s) and heatsink(s)?
