I highly recommend these two for free AV vendors: avast! and Avira.

You can ask anyone and they will tell you to stay away from AVG. A better free solution would be either avast! or Avira. They do much better in the independent lab testing as well as my own personal tests.

There is no "best scanner" but if I would have to choose one, it would be either Hitman Pro or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Wow this topic was old lol The problem didnt have to do with bitdefender at all actually. Plus the 2014 version is even lighter and still the best imo. Moving to AVG is like using MSE. It can't block or detect at all. Horrible antivirus..

Bitdefender has an auto-pilot mode that takes care of everything silently. So once you install it you literally don't need to do anything else and you are ready. Not to mention Bitdefender is more powerful than McAfee, AVG, and Norton in every way.

Hate to break it to you but there is no such thing as the best. There are some clearly better than others though and some of the top suites in my opinion are: Bitdefender ESET Kaspersky Avast Emsisoft (though they do have many false positives) G Data Malwarebytes (as a scanner)

I never had a problem with viruses when using Bitdefender or ESET. The only time I ever had something things malicious on my pc was when I used Kaspersky which I dislike for that. But Bitdefender will keep you safe no doubt. Always use Malwarebytes as a secondary scanner as well.

My version of windows was legit. It may remove malware but its about as accurate as a registry cleaner. It removes a lot of other things on it's own. I just don't see why they couldn't make it so you can see what its actually doing step by step.
