0x0000007F - Could it be a graphics problem?

Jun 29, 2006
I bought a Dell laptop (e1705) just a few weeks ago and have been running two instances of EQ2 (a MMORPG) with no lag or graphics problems whatsoever. I'm not sure exactly how soon the problem started but within a few days I started getting a blue screen, white letter error that forces me to restart my computer. Sometimes I get the error 2-3 times in 20 mins and other times I play for 4-7 hours straight before I get one.

I don't really trust Dell and believe it to be a hardware glitch probably involving the CPU or RAM. System Specs are 2.0ghz Core Duo, 2GB 667mhz RAM, 80GB Hitachi 7200rpm HD and a 256MB Nvidia 7900GS. I highlighted the graphics card because other than a hardware issue that would cause me to send the notebook back to Dell, the only other thing I can think of is that the two game instances are just stressing out my GPU. If that was the case though I wouldn't think I would be getting this specific error. I would expect to notice some choppy frames, lag, freezing, something other than just popping over to a blue screen error.

I would really like to rule the GPU out as an option before I go through the hell of Dell hardware support. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

If you plug those error codes into Microsoft's Knowledge Base, you'll more than likely find an article relating to your problem.
If you want to run a RAM test, http://memtest86.com/ , the utility on that webpage will do the trick. I suggest letting it run over night.

Good luck.
