For you: Asus U52JC $750 Core i3-380M (2.53Ghz), 15.6" 1366x768 LCD w/ Geforce 310M graphics, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD

For her: Asus U43F Bamboo $730 Core i5-460M (2.53Ghz), 14" 1366x768 LCD w/ Intel HD graphics, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD. (and avoiding all relationship traps).

Or you could get two of the Bamboo model. You'd lose a bit in L4D graphics but get a better CPU. You're also a bit out of pocket on the sales tax but I'm not sure the gift card covers those anyway.

Hello skylercloud222;

No problem shopping at BestBuy. Especially if you can find something that works for you.
ASUS G53SW $1100
Core i5-2410M (2.3Ghz 2.9Ghz Turbo) dual core Sandy Bridge CPU, 15.6" 1366x768 LCD w/ GTX 460M graphics card, 4GB RAM, 750GB HDD and USB 3.0
This is an up-to-date gaming laptop and might be more than you need. It also cuts into your 2nd laptop options. (and it might leave a bad impression with the large price difference)
