Hey, I'm thinking about getting a new hdtv, and I just don't know if I should go with 1080p or not. Now, first off, I do have an xbox360, and I also have the hddvd drive for it and both will be able to use the 1080p functionality. The problem I see with this is I heard upconverting 1080i to 1080p (for my dvd's and cable box) can look pretty crappy, now was this just a problem with early 1080p models, or does it look good now, or will these 1080p tv's show a 1080i picture without converting it?

Most newer 1080p models do a much better job 1080i upconvertion then the first sets that were out. You just need to be careful when purchasing whichever set you decide on and make sure it can accept native 1080p signals. There are unforunately a lot of manufacturers selling what they call 1080p sets that can only accept a 720p or 1080i signal and upconvert it to 1080p. Be way of what the source material is...

Obviously hddvd can be 1080p natively (get a TV with at least HDMI 1.2)

Cable box is going to be 720p or 1080i depending on channel

The quality of the upconverted dvd image will vary greatly depending on which chipset is in the DVD player.

What screen size are you looking at purchasing?

Hey, thanks for the reply, but I ended up buying a new tv about a month ago. I got a 46" sharp aquos, and i'm very happy with it.
