Solved! 120hz laptop display only showing 60hz

Hello, I just bought a Alienware 15 laptop with a 1070 nvidia graphics card with the 120hz screen. Everytime I go into a game it only shows 60hz and my computer shows that it’s running in 120hz display and also shows that in my GeForce application. What can I do to fix this?

Check Hz settings in-game if game has it. If using Geforce Experience see here

Checked hz in game it shows 1920x1080 with 120 frames... checked the GeForce and slid the bar down on the game more towards the proformance side so it would get more frames, but it is still capping at 60hz

I’ve tried nier automata, pubg, and overwatch. And sorry I meant I’ve been getting 60 FPS.

Vsync turned off in NvidiaCP and in game?

On by default, if not able to sustain 120fps, it halves the frame rate to the next level down of the refresh rate.

Yes, vsync is turned off in both

If that's the case then most likely GE is still limiting fps. Try unoptimise a game and see.

In Windows resolution, monitor adapter, does say 120Hz?

I tried un-optimizing a game and that didn't do the trick.

Has xbox game bar / gamedvr been disabled?

Make a launch shortcut of one of the games and try in Properties > Compatibility, check disable full screen optimisation
