Hello everyone, how you doing?

Here is my story: I have been considering to replace my daily driver for awhile now. I constantly travel between UK, Turkey and Cyprus therefore never had a chance to own a desktop. I briefly owned a decent Asus 17" laptop with gtx 870m and used it as a mobile desktop aong with my ageing 15" laptop. My quest was to get a light weight, small laptop which can run modern games and travel with a 24" 4k monitor (owning 2 pairs of jeans helps me to carry it at airports).
15.6" Defiance III was my first consideration but since i wanted a daily driver i focused on 15.6" Optimus VIII and Defiance 14 more. However bloody Acer has a great deal on Predator 15 right now. Only £1,499.99 AND comes iwth a steelseries mouse + steelseries headset + bag + mouse pad.

My question is this; would you get a Defience 14 for around £1000 + new shinny 4k monitor or spend 50% get the Acer + shinny 4k monitor + new batteries for my ageing daily boy. Gtx 1070 is too tempting but i will use Acer as a mobile desktop and watch movies with my old boy.

Solution
Ah right, regardless one month is a long wait time to be planning around buying a laptop. :)
Get the Acer you mentioned, that's a fantastic deal already, the extra goodies on top are just a bonus.

Oh hey there. This was supposed to be a fast copy paste job to try if i can post to forums (have another threat about the problem).

Anyway.

Acer:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ processor 2.60 GHz
39.6 cm (15.6") Full HD (1920 x 1080) 16:9
16 GB, DDR4 SDRAM
1 TB HDD + 128 GB SSD
Nvidia® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8 GB Dedicated Memory

Defiance 14 comes with a gtx 1050ti but its only 2kgs.
Defiance 15 can go up to gtx 1070 and price will be around Acer Predator 15. I am basically torn between buying a more expensive laptop with gtx 1070/60 and use it for 5 years. Or buy a lighter laptop and use it for 3 years.

I am a photographer. 4K monitors will be only used for editing not gaming. But i might buy 2 of them hence the connectivity issue. And budget is also not a huge problem. I can spend up to 2500 pounds but hesitating because of laptop technology and how fast it becomes obsolete. I also have a tech fund that i save up to 50-60 pounds per month, hence 2-3 years to buy replacement of Defiance 14.

Standard (not MAX-Q) GTX 1060 = 70.8 fps

Standard (not MAX-Q) GTX 1070 = 109.1 fps

my suggestion is to call them:

gtx1080 Max-Q= gtx1075
gtx1070 Max-Q= gtx1065
gtx1060 Max-Q= gtx1055

Where are the actual stats for MaxQ laptops?
This is just people putting out their system specs?
Keep in mind they use a lower clocked 7700HQ, find a comparison between max-Q and non-max Q laptops then post again.
The p870dm2 is last years model, and isn't max-Q, has no relevance.
You haven't actually posted max-Q stats here, keep it on track and listen to @OPs question too.
Portability and thinness will be worth sacrificing a tiny bit of performance worst case if this does happen to be true anyway.
Post max-Q Unigine results and non-max-Q results in one post, until then just keep on topic or don't post at all.

I doubt that a i7-7700hq could manage a gtx1080. I posted that p870dm2 for a comparison. that's all

@OP, a single 1080 will be heaps.
As mentioned you'll definitely want to wait for thinner laptops to release.
For 4k editing a 1070 is the best value for CUDA cores, make sure to get a 7700HQ or desktop 6700/7700 when the time comes.

Oh wow, such a debate haha.

I really liked Aorus Max-q design. But that beast will be at least 2500-2700 pounds. And after a certain price point you always get diminishing returns. Gtx 1060 is a great value card but 1080..uhmm. Worst case Gtx 1260 will wipe the floor with 1080 and a laptop equipped with it will cost less than the difference i am paying for a max-q design.
Also i need to purchase the laptop within 1 month because thats the last time i will be visiting UK in 2017 and my current laptop cannot handle Ps or Lr anymore.
Acer Predator was not the thing i was looking for but for that price it seems very tempting. Furthermore 17" HP Omen is 100 pounds cheaper than Predator 15 + comes with Kabylake processor.

Oh, and i am not sure if Schenker ships to UK free. Their prices seems already high even without 4k Sharp panel. If other suppliers provided that panel i would have got it in a heartbeat.

Well.. I am not sure when that deal ends hence the urgency. It needs to be at my sister's place by 10th of July anyway since she will come to Cyprus and my UK visit is only 5 days. "complicated family travel plans"
