Hey everybody, this is my first post and I'm looking for a new laptop (most definitely a desktop replacement) for visual effects in 3Ds max, animating in Blender and maybe Maya and video editing such as Premiere and After Effects. And yes, some gaming such as BF4 and Arma (and who can forget Minecraft ;).)

1. What is your budget?
Max at about 2100 USD.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
17 inches and up, if the specs are good 15 is just fine.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
1080p, higher resolution are not frowned upon. ;)

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Uh- portable, but I must emphasize on its power.

5. How much battery life do you need?
This is not the most important part. and can be ignored for good specs, but maybe four hours is fine.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
High on most games, but Medium is fine on GPU slaughterhouses like BF4.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Visual effects, video editing, and gaming.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
If it is only a hard drive, 1TB is fine. The dual drive SSD and HDD would be great though.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Best Buy is preferred but not necessary.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
At least five years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Again, may be skimped on for good specs but if possible, Blu-Ray.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
O would like to avoid obscure brands such as Sager, but they are still considered. Preferably a brand where I can Google the product and see reviews, not just the company website.

13. What country do you live in?
United States of America.

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
As color accurate as the display can be, it doesn't have to be REC 709 but sRGB is fine.

Thanks for your help!

I'm going to suggest looking through the "Mobile WorkStation" offerings from Dell, HP, Lenovo. You might want to also check out some of the gaming and professional laptops from boutique builders like XoticPC and OriginPC although they can all get pricy once you start customizing

See if anything in particular strikes your fancy, post back with a few options you like. I've found it to be the best way to do this (eliminates the aesthetics factor on our end)
