4gb 980m or 8gb???

Which is better for laptop gaming the 980m 4gb or 980m 8gb? Is the 4gb difference really worth the extra cost? If so how much of a performance difference is it in labtop gaming at max settings for fps games? Thanks all in advance for replies!

You do not need that 8g for fps games, only for games with lots of different textures, like GTA, with it's open world map. Hope this helped

Thankyou very much for the quick response! I do play a lot of arma 3 and some other games that have far rendering distances, would it still be worth it or would a 4gb suffice?

Get the 4GB model, YOU WILL NEVER EVER use 8GB of vram. The GPU is simply not powerful enough to take it.

Keep in mind too that in desktop specs it's a little less powerful than a GTX 970, so the GPU isn't crazy fast.

Okay 4gb it is then, and yeah I know it is in just really limited with a 2500$ labtop since I'm moving around a lot I can't bring my overclocked water cooled of a monster pc to my barracks. It will be hard coming from 290x's. I will be using this for the next 4 years

I'm not a laptop expert, so I can't tell you anything about the screen, keyboard and such. MSI is one of the leading brands in gaming laptops, so that's a good choice for sure. G-Sync is a nice extra too . Hardware looks decent, but I'd like a bigger SSD. The chances you're gonna find that are pretty slim .

I've done a shit ton of research lately and still not jumping into the buying yet, that said I'd go with the higher end ASUS over MSI, Amain reason OS ASUS by all accounts cools better while also having a quieter cooling system. ASUS seems (again, no expert at all, just from reading and researching) to be the best I can find when it comes to gaming laptops not overheating.

Both brands have laptops with good, and bad cooling. There's no such thing as a "bad-cooling brand". A brand resolves issues to be able to sell. Look at reviews for a specific laptop, not a review for a brand. Look at the channel "LinusTechTips", they've got lots of good laptop reviews, from $800 laptops, to $4000 ones.
