1. What is your budget? Sub $700

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? A large screen would be best, weight not an issue.

3. What screen resolution do you want? Higher the better. 1336x720 or higher

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? Desktop replacement.

5. How much battery life do you need? Not really an issue, it will be plugged in most of the time.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? No games.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, watching movies, Etc.) Movie watching amd music primarily. A lot of movie watching and music. Maybe some photo editing.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? 500GB+ would be the best

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links. Newegg as of right now. Would consider other places based on prices. Would also consider refurbished laptops.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? Ideally 4 years and up.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? Just need to burn DVDs and CDs, Bluray not essential.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. Not Toshiba. Bad experience with previous laptops.

13. What country do you live in? United States

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

This is pretty much an entertainment laptop for my girlfriend, but I want her to have a quality laptop and not something that meets minimum standards for movies and music.
The main things I'm looking for are:

Great screen. Nicely lit, bright, vivid, etc. Resolution of 1336x720 or higher. The bigger the better, but only if it meets these other requirements below
4GB of RAM and up. 6GB would be glorious, but that seems like another price tier up, so 4GB will do.
i3 or i5 processor would be great.
500GB hard drive would be awesome. She is a space hog

Solution
i would recommend you the one with AMD triple core N830 which is slightly below core i3 370m but more importantly this acer laptop has ATI 1gb ddr3 hd5650 which makes it a good gaming laptop which can produce 6500 to 7000 3dmarks06 on 1280x1024
on 1368x768 you can expect more results like upto 8000 or more 3dmarks easily. So it will play GTA4 smoothly on medium/high on 1368x768. Crysis on same resolution medium about 50fps and on high about 20 to 28fps with no AA. And COD mw2 on max smoothly. Hope it works.

Hi there,

You should check out the Dell Studio 15. It is a great value and has an i3 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of hard drive space. It is a great choice for productivity and entertainment. It is perfect for watching movies on!

What do you think?

Cheers,
