"Under the Banner of Heaven" is a horribly inaccurate fictionalized version of a true story - that being the murder of a woman and her child in American Fork, Utah in 1984. Even the portrayal of church members is laughably foreign to me, and I've been an active member for nearly 50 years. It makes me highly suspect the claim of the screenwriter to have ever really been an active member. (And I live in a city close enough to American Fork that we share the same police and fire departments.)
