Acer Aspire 57322g wont turn on PROPERLY

Hi, my acer aspire laptop wont turn on properly. it has a dead battery so i dont have that in and the power cord is in but when i push the power button all that comes on is the lights and that screen is black as if the IS power going to it. There are no sounds coming from the computer though the cd drive does open and when i press Fn F5,F6 or the arrow keys (these all have something to do with the display of the screen).. the screen respond slightly..

With laptop running, shine a torch close up to the screen. If you see a faint image, the backlight has blown so needs replacing.
