Acer laptop boots but screen stays black

Hi all,

I have an Acer laptop that was used for many years, but now the screen stays black.
I've searched around the internet and this forum but I can't find a working solution.

Model: Acer Aspire 3935 series.


*Apparently it boots completely into windows as I hear the intro and exit sound after booting/shutting down.

*I tried several methods:
-Removing battery, holding power button for about 60 seconds
-removing and replacing RAM, also tried booting with only one RAM module
-tried Fn+F5 and others. Fn+F8 normally toggles sound on and off and this works (it even keeps it current state after rebooting).
-starting with the lid closed at a 30 degree angle

I'm going to search for an avg cable right now and hook it up to an external screen.
