Hi all - I've been using Acronis 2012 as backup&restore hardware. There's
one issue that bugs me, but have been living with.

I use the back up sector by sector option, and it seems to be fine.

However, the box to check the "make this drive bootable"
is greyed out and unavailable. The backup drive is identical
in capacity to the C drive (both 500g), so I'm wondering what
I can do to make the backup drive bootabe.

If the C drive
should fail, I would like to just swap the leads on the sata headers
& make the backup drive become my c drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Solution
If you can check off the "bootable" option, then it should be bootable. Of course, you will still need to change the boot priority in the bios so that it will boot from the correct drive.

Also, check out Acronis's forums. There is a lot of useful information there - a lot more than you will find here on Tom's; in relevence to Acronis that is.

I beleive only one drive in the system can be marked bootable at a time. Why not just image the OS drive. It only takes minutes to do a complete restore and be up and running again. Also, you shouldn't need a sector by sector copy. It takes up more space in your backup.

Hi - thanx for the input. I did the sector by sector back up in the hopes of
making the hdd being used for backup bootable.

But, if only one can be bootable, then that's why I am
unable to. Just figured they have that option box to make bootable
with the destination drive, then I should be able to. Oh well.
