Hi

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop. I was initially looking to buy a brand new laptop until I realized I can't find the laptop I want, unless I spend some significant money.

Anyways, I'm looking to buy this Acer M5-481T which is a ultrabook that I think looks sleek. My goal is to put a MSATA SSD and use it as the boot drive and have the secondary mechanical hard drive for my files. In addition, I want to upgrade the ram to 10GB (as this is the maximum ram that this machine will accept from memory) and if possible (doubt it thought) upgrade the screen to a 1080p resolution (why are laptop manufacture still using 1366x768 on majority of laptops is beyond me).

To cut the long story short I want to know if it possible to use a MSATA SSD as my boot drive and have my secondary hard drive as my storage, without too many complications.

Thank you in advanced.

Hi,

Yes you can upgrade that laptop with a mSATA SSD and use it as well as the primary boot drive where you'll install the Operating System and use the HDD as the storage device which I think is already the way it's setup when you receive it since according to its configuration it has 20GB SSD (mSATA) and a 500GB HDD.

Here's a compatible mSATA SSD for the laptop:

Sorry for not messaging sooner, just had a lot on my plate. Thanks for your response. Just one question, is there a specific BIOS version I should be running since I've been reading online that the laptop can't detected the MSATA hard drives ones the 2.5 inch hard drive is install. I want this process to go as smooth as possible. Is their anything that I can do to bypass this issue or prevent this issue such as running a specific BIOS version? I'm planning to run this with ether windows 7/8 and upgraded to 10. Thanks.
