One possibility could be Palm offering rebates to people who sell the most, not dissimilar from the Intel strategy a few years ago. It could be worth it for them to gain a larger market share and they just may lower the general prices of other smart phones in the process.

Too bad there are no apps for the Pre or Pixi. Palm should have released the SDK on the Pre Launch date (or before that) if they wanted to sell any. People who buy smartphones want apps.

how about some love for existing customers looking to resign? My Pearl has got to go and I'd love to grab either of these phone's at those prices.

What the Pre doesn't have a are 40,000 fart, shacking baby, and just about every other useless "lol its a game, I'm a gamer" app.

Perhaps they are just dumping product of a company about to go out of business...

Frankly, great device or not, but it also shows that Palm clearly lost its basis and to gain it back in light of iPhone, Droid and others may simply too big of a task for a company that neglected progress for too long.

The Palm Pre is an EXCELLENT phone. Just because it doesn't have worthless apps it has 300 useful apps and more arriving every day. The interface is intuitive and it is an awesome operating system. Droid sucks compared to it since there is no multi-touch (pinch zoom) on the Droid. iPhone is slightly more responsive and more apps, but worse phone service and coverage. Pre is a quality competitor and this price point will make the Pre the perfect phone for many "flip phone" devotee's to get into the smart phone market.

Palm made a huge mistake with the Pixi. Instead of making a slower, lower resolution, no-Wifi phone to supposedly "complement" the Pre they should have made a phone that was just as good (or better) than the Pre internally, but that just offered a different form factor. Some people prefer the "blackberry" style of phone and that's what the Pixi is, but with a far superior OS IMO.

... the Palm Pre just waiting for the 32GB version of it it's supposed to come out this year.

What the Pre needs
-More apps
-32GB or 64GB version of it
-A on-screen keyboard
-video recorder

That's all.... afterwards it's successful
The Droid isn't that great in my opinion if you comapre them side-by-side the Android OS is nowhere as near as the Palm webOS and iPhone OS.

We cannot ignore that Amazon and Walmart are in the middle of a huge price war, and not just with phones. Certain book that these companies have decided we wage war with are at ridiculously low prices. Palm may have smartly provided the arena for this price fight, but these two companies have been at war over more than just phones.
