[citation][nom]CChick[/nom]For those who said PS3 is "overpriced"I want you to build me a computer for 500 bucks that can play Blu-Ray, Media Center, High Def Games on a 1080p TV without lagging with all legal software and be able to boot up in less than 10 seconds. If you can't please stfu cheap fucks.[/citation]

Uhh, yes it can be done for $500 if you get the Win 7 RC for free. You can then install XBMC or Boxee, which makes the PS3 media feature look like crap. You can also use a 360 controller with most games. I think the argument is that the PS3 has been out for 2.5 years and has been outsold by the PS2 since that time, so why don't they do game developers and publishers and gamers a favor and just cut the price already to something under $400 so that people would actually buy it and developers would create games for it. If they announced a 70% fab reduction, then the next logical move would then be to reduce the MSRP, otherwise why announce the fab costs. We all assumed the hefty price was attributed to the high manufacturing costs, but that can't be anymore.

Sony is strategically brilliant for a price cut at this time with the news of Wii's saturation. There was no need going neck to neck on pricing with the Wii and now Sony can fight to pick up the void for those wanting to upgrade from the Wii. $50 is probably just testing the waters. If sales picks up nicely they'll go all out against MS.

[citation][nom]Dave_69[/nom]Knock it down to $250 - $300 and I'll buy one. Otherwise it's just an over-glorified GPU without decent I/O devices.[/citation]

How does one get voted down for that? You guys are a unique bunch on Tom's.

Why is it so hard to understand why people consider the PS3 overpriced ? Sure, it offers a HELL of a lot for the price. BUT , it's only a good deal if you value all of its features. If you want Blu-Ray, wireless connectivity, nice media capabilities, a powerful Cell processor and a big hard drive for storage, then YES it's a great deal. Unfortunately, the statistics show that the average person just doesn't put much value on these extra features. For the average person, it doesn't provide them with anything of value for the extra cost. Since it doesn't provide any extra value, the Xbox 360 looks like a much better deal.

ONLY $450!? Do they think we are stupid? The new slim is coming out soon, everyone should wait for that plus a price cut.

I am currently in the market for a 42in hdtv, and possible a console to go along with it.(i haven't really played anything other than my pc is quite a few years). The ps3 is insanely overpriced, if it goes to $299 i would consider it, but it doesn't have as many good games or as good of online features as the 360. Granted, online is free on PS3 but i would pay the $50 a year for xbox live.

Also, PS3 is the only console that is not getting netflix capabilities. lol.

You forgot shipping... so add 20$ per item.

My xbox 360 just died, going to sell my PS3 and replace my 360. PS3 just doesn't feel as a good gaming console as the 360.

PS3 is good for pickup and play, my PC is still my main gaming interface, but for when friends come over and people are drinking...PS3 is whats on and is whats fun. PC is the way to go for personal gaming but for social-type gaming..console.

[citation][nom]megabuster[/nom]You forgot shipping... so add 20$ per item.[/citation]

$20 per order

And to offset that $20, replace Item #: N82E16822145233 1TB HDD $74.99 with Item #: N82E16822136098 320GB HDD $49.99 (or for an extra $5, you can upgrade to 500GB)

$499 - $349.30(70%) = $149.70

I still don't think $450 is a good deal. Sell the damn thing for $175.00 without a harddrive, which seems to be a HUGE markup with $ony, and I will buy my on HD and install it.

That's awesome a computer that outperforms the PS3 can be had for that cheap. CChick looks like a fool now!

I would just like to point out though that nearly everyone needs to own a computer for some reason or another. The only difference between an everyday computer and a gaming computer for the most part is just the graphics card. So what we really need to compare is the cost of the PS3 vs the cost of slapping in a graphics card and maybe a higher wattage power supply; both of which can easily be had at the high end level for around $250 - $300 (HD 4890 and 750 watt PSU).

The PS3 just plain blows.

1) Already have done...built one for my dad about 4 months ago (he LOVES his BluRay, btw)...

2) Why're you holding a competing media PC to such high standards when 90% of PS3 games run at only 720P, NOT 1080P?? Heck, some major titles-- like GTAIV (640P), Haze (1024 X 576) and Ghostbusters (960 X 540)-- can't even swing a full 1280 X 720 on the PS3! AND even at 720P, the target framerate for top-tier PS3 games [MGS4, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Uncharted, etc.] is only 30FPS (which means, during intense scenes the game drops below the FPS "sweet zone")...

and uh... you might wanna consider taking your own advice...
