I'm not apple fanboy or anything, but it does call "apple store". its their store and they have the right to control what content on it.
Beside, why would apple want a direct competitor's product in their store?? i would say they are crazy if they let this little e-magazine post. its like try to pitch sale a AT&T phone plan in Verzion store, not gonna happen in real life.

It really surprises me that some people can defend Apple on this one. Even the people who are saying it isn't good business, but it is still a business so it is to be expected.

What if the shoe were on the other foot? What if Microsoft didn't allow people using their OS/browser/office suites to view web pages or documents about competing products?

Or, fancy this, what if Microsoft tried to make sure their OS didn't play nice with other browsers?

Seems there was a lot of controversy over those things and situations similar to them. You have only to look back over the history of anti-trust and anti-monopoly cases to see exactly what type of business practices they are (hint: unethical and sometimes illegal).

Shame on Apple for claiming to "think different." They think exactly like every power hungry, soulless corporation that wants to do away with the rights of the consumer.

I don't need an app store telling me what is acceptable for me to consider buying. I prefer a free market economy.

I don't need a DRM scheme telling me how and where I can play music that I legitimately paid for.

I don't need Steve Jobs telling me what I can and can't even READ ABOUT on a device I own. That's right, Steve. *I* paid for it and *I* own it.

Rotten fruit, poison Apple. No thanks.

Apple is the worst. I hate them more and more every day, but I am still long AAPL stock. The company has a tremendous talent in ripping off wealthy, non-tech-savvy people. They make some quality products, but the draconian control is really becoming exceedingly much nowadays. I guess I'll never understand the general population's willingness to eat up the marketing propaganda and the accompanying media hype. Hmm, it seems owning a Mac is kinda like owning a Prius...

We can all be sure that an iPhone-MAG app wouldn't be banned from google/android store... 😉

But while it *IS* censorship - its not illegal because:
A) Its a product and its services through a company that the customer has chosen.
{Its a reason I went with an Android phone... even thou MS-mobile7 looks great, its MS locked}
B) Its not a govt.

C) Not sure why its really needed... but perhaps an iPhone user could use it when his Android is in the shop... like mine is (concrete vs. AMOLED screen... guess which lost?). I don't have an iphone, I went back to my SONY slider... which is why I like SIM cards. ANyways, its kind of stupid for Apple to even bother banning it.

Anyone here expecting MS to allow PS3 content or vice-versa? Even on a website I'm working on, there is a rule that says "we reserve the right to ban/cancel your subscription".

Didn't cross the line. Apple's product, they own it, so apple's rules. Now of course, the consumer also can respond with a simple gesture...don't use the iphone.

@wrxchris: Lol hey nothing wrong with owning a Prius. It has its purposes. But sadly people are extremely ill informed and just buy based on trend. It amuses me how many people buy laptops based on how they look.

Well what about Windows?? In Europe Microsoft was forced to give a choice on which browser is installed when you first start Windows and not have IE as the default. Are they going to force Apple to give people a choice to use something besides the Apple Store?? That is what I want to see happen.

I love apple and Microsoft but both companies have crossed the threshold hell even Google the o mighty has crossed it by firing someone for a ridiculous reason which reminds me of Apple when it first started out. Microsoft being basically the God head of Apple honestly. Apple makes great products and the same with Microsoft along with Google riding the free bandwagon scraps that were left behind by Apple and Microsoft of which they didn't see any potential in, but boy they were wrong. Point being who cares what Steve does is what he believes makes them stronger.

For all those saying 'its just business', i agree. Apple can put whatever they want on their App Store. However, the fact they're not letting a magazine about Android go in their store is pretty childish. Are they that insecure that they can't have a magazine about a competitors product floating around their App Store? It would have been better to allow it and say 'we are so sure of our products that we're going to let a magazine about a competitors product appear on our App Store'.

I don't own anything from Apple, so in the end this doesn't affect me.

[citation][nom]sykozis[/nom]Is anyone actually surprised by this?[/citation]
I'm surprised people keep buying Apple products....but as sales numbers indicate that appears to be changing. Thank god for Android, I hate apple and this blackberry with their crap apps is really boring me to death!

Classic Toms hardware forum. lol. Do you guys really think any company would put what is essentially competitive marketing material on their products? The obvious answer is no. The guy said that the publication was all android and nothing else. What do you think will happen. Do you see anything related to IPhone on a Android or Windows Mobile phone. HELL NO!! So why would you expect any different from Apple. I like Apples products, despise some of their business practices but this is just normal business as usual and does not reflect negatively at all on the company. They have every right to protect their brand and not put what could be competitive material on their hardware. The Phone is not a computer guy's, it is a phone. You want to see competitive information, use the web.

The main fact that you can only legally buy an app from the app store on a apple iphone or ipad should pretty much make everyone wake up and see that if you want just one option of purchases than go buy this. If you don't then stop bitching!

[citation][nom]Netherscourge[/nom]It's called business. You expect Microsoft to allow Playstation 3 advertising on it's Xbox Live service? Of course not.[/citation]
it's not advertising - a better analogy for you would be a gaming magazine that shows PS3 games. If XBL service bans that, it would be much closer.

I just went to Bing and typed in PS3, apparently they allow PS3 related advertisements. I would laugh hard if the words Apple, iPod, iPad and iPhone were automatically removed from every email that passed through Gmail or search result from Google.

Apple can censor all they want, just like I can refuse to use Apple and their rose colored glasses all I want.

Did that surprise anybody ?

While Apple may not have blatantly done this in the past [Except Google Voice, delaying which was justified by Apple, however lame the excuse may be], there has been ample indication that only content that pleases Stevie will go into the App Store.

Wake up Apple fanboys. You're paying premium for a device that isn't, or wasn't truly yours. The product may be good, but if I'm given a choice between a 5 star hotel that decides when I poop, and my home, home wins hands down, any given day.
