Someone should get ahold of all the people overseas that constantly attack our government networks and see if we can get them to attack the patent offices and destroy all their records so we'll be forced to redo it and come up with something that actually works and makes sense.

The patent system right now is just a total joke.

am i reading this right?

are they suing over devides automatic turning off, downclocking when crap isn't being used, and dimming the screen?

seriously?

there are some patents that need to be helped out but you could patent those ideas? WTF

For a moment, i thot it was apple who was suing...
I think im gonna start my own company.. just for the heck of suing others. :)

[citation][nom]bustapr[/nom]Its funny how these people wait till a company is at its prime to sue thm for a patent theyve held and known of for years. [/citation]

it's funny how people think this way.

it's funny how people think business is all fair and follows letters of the law JUST LIKE EVERYONE IN THE WORLD DOES!

it's funny how people always assume that manufacturers devices secrets are examined immediately upon release by every patent holder in the world.

it's funny how people assume that what ever company put out a product bothered to check to see if some employee helping to make the product didn't copy it from some where else.

it's funny how people assume that once a product of suspected violation means the patent holder gets to automatically sort and examine every bit of information a company has regarding that device just because they want to.

if this seems harsh, it's only kind of intended to be that way as it's not so much admonishment but ridicule in hopes you think on the subject of how the world works a bit more. i'm sure intel loves giving away their patent rights, and why nvidia is not scrambling to stay in business due to not being able to aquire new lisc.'ing from intel and being shut out of amd due to amd having it's own graphics and scaling system.

[citation][nom]jomofro39[/nom]Well, I for one, can't get enough of these exciting patent suits! On a serious note, maybe the government will become aware of the number of them and actually decide to make some policy geared towards making the patent system a little less vague and convoluted. The only way it will happen is if these huge corporations keep on getting sued. That way, they will get annoyed enough to lobby politicians, and the politicians will bring it up, and the public won't care, but eventually there will be enough money in the pipeline to force a change. God, I love America.[/citation]

they already know, ask any judge or court reporter every one in congress knows also they see the $bill to pay for legal services every year and they always ask why it cost so much.

it's not the patent system so much as it is people thinking they won't get caught stealing and the lawyers feeding on this ignorance and doing everything they can to legal rape you, your wallet and the defendants.

cap lawyers salaries like the executive or judicial branch and it should fix alot.

Most of the trouble we have are with Software process patents, ie: "putting Widget X on top of Widget Y" or "A device to sort widgets", "Making Widgets X shaped to fit in X shaped holes"..

They are by design vague, often too vague as to encompass enormous portions of our society. Due to how backlogged the Patent office is in the US, a lot get through that should not. I would also not be surprised if there was some collusion as well.

Sure have patents on your gadget, but long standing patents on how to do some things that are the next logical step, No.

The patent office needs to get rid of these Software process patents, many countries do not allow them. The problem is that it takes lawyers, and lawyers hate to give up future business.

The bad news is that there are lobbying groups trying to get other countries to add software patents to what kind of patents they grant. I believe Australia was one such country considering such patents.

These software patents, even when against two big companies usually end up in settlement, and agreements, but those agreements often lock others out of the field, creating large barriers to new business.

Want to know one reason a new business is hard to start in the US? Imagine how much of your budget will be devoted to researching (its YOUR responsibility!) and paying for patents for something NEW you want to build. Sure you might get off the ground a bit, but once you have something worth a damn, Patent lawyers descend like harpies.

[citation][nom]uruquiora[/nom]PATHETIC patent sytem...I hate those guys spending their whole day chasing legal actions to make money pff[/citation]
I see - lol

With these patent trolls and a faulty US legal system, it really makes you think that maybe a socialist country actually makes sense. 😛

I am soooo tired of seedy patent firms that create very generic idea patents that they assume will be the next trend in tech and then sit & wait to sue...lol. If you actually MAKE & DEVELOP then someone steals it then you have a right to sue. I hope this gets thrown out!

imho in the US legal system the originator of the lawsuit should have to pay all court costs and lawyer fees of both sides, you lose you pay you win you pay. would cut down on alot of all these needless lawsuits.

That puts garage inventors trying to sue a company that stole his work in a tight bind. Not sure John Q Public has a spare $2 million.

The thoughts behind are positive, but not the best solution.
