[citation][nom]rebus_forever[/nom]also my gf was looking for a good value notebook with acceptable flash performance and I was as I say unbiased and was maybe gonna suggest an apple device, then I heard they cant play flash, am I mistaken or is this true?[/citation]
Its false. Apple products CAN play and use flash. Problem is, on the iOS devices such as iPhones, iPods, iPads....you cannot install flash unless you jailbreak your phone nor does the devices come pre-installed with flash which voids your Apple iOS warranty. On Apple PC's and Laptops, you can install flash without voiding any warranty as the Apple's Mac OSx is not as locked down. But fair warning, Flash for OSx is not optimized and will drain your Laptop battery faster than the Windows Flash version. On OSx Desktop Macs, power is no concern but the poor optimization of flash will kill your flash experience.
Why the poor flash optimization on Apple's OSx? Its because of Apple's CEO Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs case is, Flash has too many bugs and holes, thus barring Flash from Apple products will make owners of Apple products a better experience. So he bans it from all Apple iOS devices and hardly no support on Apple's Laptops and OSX products, Steve Jobs basically will not work with Adobe nor let Adobe near OSx at this point. Steve Jobs' claims about bugs and security holes in flash is true to an extent and he praises HTML5, but is just a smoke screen. As said before, if he was to enable flash on all Apple products:
1) Flash games are free on the internet and will kill Apple's App store as most of the apps and games can be had for free. (This is the biggest reason in my opinion)
2) Apple drivers to run its hardware are not as optimized and written as good as those on Windows - which affects battery and graphics which makes a poor web and multimedia experience. Which in turn will make Steve Jobs actually make worthy drivers for its hardware which Steve Jobs will have to spend more money on.
3) HTML5 - which Steve Jobs is putting all his money on, does the same thing as flash and is still in its infancy. Granted, there have been big developments and gains from HTML5 but it is 5 yrs behind flash.
4) Basically flash on Apple products will show you how sub par and or normal Apple Products are (because that is just the truth). You will not get the 10hour battery that you do with Flash on a Mac Laptop. Apple devices will heat up even more, graphics will will take a hit, etc. Apple is a Marketing Giant with sub par generic internal hardware...except for their aluminum cases and designs.
There are more reasons I can go into about Apple and Adobe Flash but the main point is, Flash is used on 90% of the internet. Steve Jobs decision and ban of Adobe Flash is mind boggling to me.
