Apple to Reveal iPhone OS 4.0 This Week

I thought the iPod Touch already did this? I get updates from my Facebook App and Yahoo if I leave them connected and do something else. Brings up a blue window alerting me of the message. Weird. I can play music and go do something else, like browse the web.

Another week with overpriced antiquated Macbook Pros on the market, with no hint of their replacements. But fear not, Apple will entertain you with toys and other distractions to divert your attention away from this.

Works for the ipod, but thats about it. For example, you couldn't (from what i understand) listen to pandora and browse the web.

mlopinto, this is different. those are push notifications, basically the program will periodically check for updates, ever 5/10.20 mins etc.

with multitasking the app can remasn open, notifying you in real time and allowing you to reconnect without making you re-load the whole app.

sounds cool though. looking forward to an update to my new iPod touch.

FTA: "however we've mentioned in the past that OS 4.0 may incorporate device multitasking"

My iPhone already lags enough and the battery is even worse. Sometimes the screen doesn't respond, other times it hangs up for several seconds then crashes, or sometimes it'll launch an app and then just crash. This doesn't even begin to include Itunes problems running on my x64 windows 7 machine. itunes has reformatted by iPhone about 9 times telling me i need to "sync" before i can do anything.

I think they need to focus on optimizing current things and making them work efficiently before doing anything else.

Which iPhone generation are you using and what is the age of your device? Other than horrid battery performance, I have none of the issues that you are having. It could be that you have a bad device, but who knows.

While I am not a "fanboy" by any stretch, I do believe that you may be having phone issues outside of the norm(for the most current iPhones). I do agree that Apple should focus on other areas, if 4.0 will give us what people believe it will.

Sounds like Apple is scrambling to catch up to Android. Sorry Apple, but with so many hardware and software vendors working on Android, the walled garden doesn't have a chance of keeping up.

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]The Pre plus , really godwhomismike? What a wuss. The iphone still beats everything out there even the HTC HD2 Ive compared them. When apple releases their next iphone, 64Gb amoled 4.3 inch screen,1ghz cpu, multitasking, front facing cam, it will scream dominance once again over every other phone out or coming out.[/citation]
that's really intelligent, calling him a wuss for having a different opinion.

Hoping the update is worthwhile, although I probably won't update until the newest jailbreak is out. Multi tasking is a must, and I can only do that jail broken. =[

I have have an iPhone 3G since January 2009. I am not happy with it. I find it slow, it freezes up often, can't multitask, listening to music and surfing the web at the same time makes it grind to almost a halt, and I have no need for most of the apps offered.

I found the Pre Plus to be significantly speedier than the iPhone, I like the multitasking, the WebOS environment, and it has a lot of ram (for a phone).

Some people like the Android, but I haven't really played with it. I fell for the WebOS, and that's what I am going to get next. I bought into the iPhone hype last year, and have been less than impressed.

I do like taking photos, and hope that feature works good on the Pre Plus for when I don't have a digital camera with me.

Interesting that you know so much when nothing has been confirmed. Also HTC EVO has very impressive specs that will raise the bar. Despite it going to Sprint, with the combination of EV-DO and WiMAX it will do voice and data at the same time. The iPhone 4G will not be a LTE capable device, meaning it will be still a 3G phone.

Honestly, the only I can thank Apple for is showing the cellular companies how poor their network really is and how behind they are; this goes double for AT&T.

I don't live in a 3G area and it bothers me how crappy EDGE really is and why I have to pay the same amount someone 25 miles away does when they do have 3G (Verizon and Sprint have 3G around me!).

My next phone is going to be a Phone OS 7 handset or Android and it will not be on AT&T.

I have a 3GS and I have found a lot of stability issues. I have had my sound cut out a handful of times and I have to turn off/on the phone to get it to work again. I've had the screen just turn off and refuse to turn on for 30 seconds or so a few times. A few other issues too. It's not too bad and certainly not enough to make me get another phone (before my contract is up anyways), but it is enough to make me consider my other options when I need a new phone.

Oh and if anybody here is Canadian and is with Rogers, am I the only one that is pissed off that they've started offering a cheaper plan (about 6 months ago now) and will only let you have it if you resign your contract?
