Question Are laptop 'pieces' interchangeable?

Hi everyone! Recently, a friend gave me her laptop with the dead screen. - I guess you could say that I collect broken computers; this one makes 9. - The computer part works fine, it's only the screen that doesn't work. Can I take the screen off one of the other broken laptops and switch it with the dead screen? Almost all of them are HP's. If these were desktops, I could fix them in my sleep - not so confident with laptops.
