Hello, I do not want to start a flame war so I came here for some reasonable advice. Thanks in advance. I am starting a new job as a campus minister. I need a new laptop. It needs to be portable, have good battery life, able to do some easy yet attractive video editing, and ideally I would like this machine to last me 3+years. I have been a windows user all my life but I am still on XP so have no experience with 7 and am glad I missed the Vista fiasco. I have built modded gaming PCs so I am fairly comfortable with PC's. However, I am also very familiar with their problems, viruses, inevitable slowdown, etc. I had just about convinced myself to get a macbook pro but it is hard to take that price plunge. Any advice, especially from someone with experience on both platforms, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Matt

Don't fool yourself, a Mac is a PC, it just has access to Appple's catalogue/OS, that's the only difference.

The main issue is can you afford it? That's the only barrier.

Because if you have to ask about whether or not you should get a Mac, the answer is likely yes, because you don't need the flexibility of a standard PC, you need the simplicity of an appliance like a Mac, and should you grow into more of a power user, you can always use Bootcamp or VMware programs to make is more PC-like.

PC hardware>Mac Hardware/Mac software>PC software.
Unfortunatelly thats how it goes. Mac=Pc nowdays in terms of that, they just have Mac OS, not Windows.
For work only macs are more effective since they have Plain programs. But i would advice not to think in terms of mac or pc before you get to know what your work will be surrounded by. If you are surrounded by mac using personel, mac will do better, but if your co-workers/clients will be using windows, then windows will give you less of a headache (think that Mac and Pc dont have same software so you could find yourself in having a program you cant move to any otehr computer, and that would suck.

Pc are slower due to ppl filling them with crap, not becouse they fill itself. If you dont download porn, install games, fill it with movies and songs downloaded, windows will do almost as well as Mac OS.
Basicly, a Pc is a big family car that can be used for anything, while a mac is something like a ferrari (when it comes to work/vide and audio editing), good for 1 thing, useless for everything else.
Hope this helps,
