Are Sennheiser HD 558 headphones good?

I am interested in buying these headphones and I would like to know from the people that own them if they like the sound quality, comfort, etc.

I don't own them, but one comment indicates they are OPEN meaning that other people can hear the sound if nearby so that may factor into your decision.

You should also specify the PURPOSE of the headphones (gaming, music, movies) as there may be better choices depending on your usage.

I bought some Sony MDR-V700 headphones and they are amazing! I had a problem of the being too loud with my PC as they are really audiophile headphones with a different impedence (OHM) than PC headphones.

My problem was solved by NOT using the headphone output of my audio card on my sound card (I had two, one without a headphone AMP), but if you use with a PC and your sound solution has a good AMPLIFIER for headphones as the only option then sound may be TOO HIGH. By "too high" I mean the volume at the LOWEST I could hear it was slightly higher than I'd like. I could compensate for videos via the player volume control but not all games.

Also, sound won't appear proper if you use these types of headphones with portable audio players which aren't designed to drive that amount of power.
