Asus laptop not used in a year

I plugged in the charger and nothing is happening and no light went on. Should I just leave it plugged it overnight and then it might kick in?

If you mean a light on the charger (and not on the laptop) then the charger probably needs replacing. If, however, you mean a light on the laptop, then it could be the charger or the port on the laptop.

I think at the very least the battery will be useless now if it hasn't been charged up for a year.

Laptop should work on mains power though - - may be you need to remove that useless battery first.

Also you could check the fuse in the plug of the mains cable - - may need replacing.

Otherwise, let a repair centre take a look at it.
