ASUS laptop stuck on 'Attempting Repairs'

Once I turn on the bloody thing, it tells me 'Automatic repair' then 'Diagnosing problems' then it gets stuck on 'attempting repairs' I chatted to a Microsoft guy who said I'd need another computer to make something to fix it, but he also said I'd need the product key- I don't have a product key as Windows came with the laptop!

I really don't want to lose files on the computer either!

Please help me before I get 'attempting repairs'- with a hammer.

Have you tried booting into safe mode? or booting with a win systems disk and do repairs from it?
