Hi everyone. I feel really stupid posting and asking about this ancient laptop, but it’s all I have at the moment and I’m really desperate to get it working again at least temporarily. Obviously I’m overdue for an upgrade, but it crashed on me last night and brought up the black screen with the fatal exception that tells you about the errors.(No, I don’t know exactly what the errors or codes were, some type of fatal exception memory thing? I’ve been getting them for years, I just assumed it was the consequence of trying to do too much with only 6GB of RAM) I rebooted and got going again and it crashed again about an hour later, except it skipped the error screen and just died on me, with the power and power lights still on though! I can’t get it to turn back on. It has power, the four lights at the top of the laptop come on but nothing on the screen. The screen is not the issue.

I had to remove the battery to power off the computer, no amount of holding in the power button would get it to shut down. With the battery out, I removed all cords and accessories and then held the power button down for 30 seconds, and I plugged the power cord back in without the battery. Again, the four lights at the top of the laptop come on, but that’s the only sign of life, it’s silent and now colder than a bankers heart.

So I removed the plug, the lights go out, I reinsert the battery and plug it back in. THIS TIME, the four lights come on, and I actually hear the sounds of my laptop attempting to start up, like it’s starting to spin, trying its best to spin… And it just can’t do it. It gives up. Is that my hard drive then? I really hope it is something fixable, I have very limited knowledge of any of this, any help is greatly appreciated!
