Hi everyone! I have an Asus Q551l 2 in 1 laptop. I have had it for about 2 years now, so the warranty under it is gone. I have not been able to use it for a month already due to the fact that it will not turn on. I believe the cause of it was when the power went out 3 times in a row while it was turned on and plugged in. I'm not really sure if it's the battery or the motherboard that got fried.

When I mean it won't turn on, it doesn't go passed the startup ASUS logo. The laptop still charges but right as I turn it on, it shuts right off. At this point, I'm already willing to give up on it, but I do have a lot of important documents in it. I wasn't too smart about it and never backed it up. Is there a chance that I could still get it to work again?

Try the following and see if it will turn on.

1. First make sure the device has been charged.
2. Unplug your charger cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds and see if the device will turn on.
5. If it does, great, if not yet, no big deal. Now plug back in the power/charger cord. (If it didn't turn on without the cord in, it should turn on once you it is in. Yes sometimes they will turn on, or try to turn on, even with nothing attached/plugged in.)
6. Now put the battery back in.

If that doesn't work, try the following...

1. Power off the laptop.
2. Power on the laptop.
3. As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off.
4. Repeat this process a few times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
5. Now you want to let the laptop boot to the "Automatic Repair" screen.
6. Click "Advanced Options" and then select "Troubleshoot".
7. Here you want to select "Refresh your PC", if you do not wish to erase data, or "Reset your PC" to erase all data and restore your system.
8. From here just follow the screen instructions until the recovery is completed.

NOTE: You will need to get into the "Advanced Options" in order to get the "Refresh Option". This choice will keep your data, but any programs installed will be lost.

Do not do a "Reset" as that will wipe all data you have on the laptop.

I tried and followed everything you wrote, but no luck. More like, I tried to turn it on, stayed on for less than a second, shut off, and can longer turn it on. As if I just drained the battery completely. Also, the laptop will not power on at all if the battery is not inserted, but plugged in the charger.
