Question Asus Strix Scar 2 Powers off when power cable removed

So I've only had this for a day and when I tried to power it on without the power cable nothing happened.
Then I plugged in the power cable and it worked. Once powered up I then removed the power cable and the laptop turned off.

Help would be greatly appreciated as I use this laptop for more than just games.

It's best to fully charge the battery before use then run the laptop until it warns you the battery is running out. Keep doing that six times and the battery will behave better and last longer.

I don't think you've understood my problem. The laptop doesn't work at all under battery power. It's new so I don't think it is a problem with the battery.

I'm sorry but I can't reconcile those two conflicting sentences. Have you left the mains power on for a sufficient time, fully to charge the battery?

If it has, and if the battery is a dud and you must return the whole unit to the retailer, telling them the battery is useless.
