Solved! Asus Vivobook to LG Monitor

I have an old LG monitor which has a VGA connection, and a new ASUS Vivobook laptop with HDMI. I purchased a cable with VGA at one end and HDMI at the other, but it won’t detect the monitor. Any tips how to do this?

If the Vivebook has an HDMI output and the monitor has a DVI-D input (both digital), you'll just need and HDMI to DVI-D cable.

VGA is analog. HDMI is digital. Without a proper adapter/converter, this connection is not possible.

What specific cable did you purchase (link, please)?

Yes ok thanks for pointing that bit out, I actually brought it from a random store downtown in a hurry, never realised they would be so different
Found the link on the packet.
So, what should I buy extra to make it work? Or should I try returning and buying something else or will it never work and I need a whole new monitor?

I see the monitor also has a DVI -D point as well as the VGA (D-SUB)
We also have a cord that is VGA both ends, no other HDMI ones at the moment
