Question Asus X551MA Battery Problem

I'm wondering if someone can please help me.


I have an Asus X551M running Win8.1. I haven't used it in quite a while (since October 2017, if the update history is anything to go by) and now it won't charge. It either says it's "plugged in, not charging" or "plugged in, charging", but either way it does NOT charge.


I left it plugged in overnight while switched off, hoping that would help but when I switched it on, it says it is "plugged in, not charging".


Please help. It may not be the world's greatest laptop but it has never let me down before and I like the machine. Plus, I won't find one running Win8.1 these days (yes, I LIKE Win8.1, thank you!) and right at the moment, I can't afford to replace it.


I mean, I can use it while plugged in but it's not very mobile then, is it?


If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

You might like to remove that battery because it's so flat it's pure luck it can pass power through itself. If you can stand the nagging messages, leave it in and sooner or later it might wake up but a replacement is the better option.

I realise replacing the battery is an option but why does not using the laptop for a whiile mean the battery won't charge up?

Go into Control Panel>Device Manager and uninstall both of the Microsoft entries under Batteries. Restart the machine and see if that makes a difference.

I tried that. It doesn't. I contacted Asus about replacement batteries but they said they don't sell replacement internal batteries. Anyone know where I can get an OEM battery from instead of a cheapo chinese knockoff?

The best way would be to remove it, assuming it comes out as implied by Asus, then take any details and the maker's reference to e-Bay for a s search.
