Solved! Audio and tv connection

I have a JVC 55” Saphire smart TV and I want to connect an older Pioneer Suround sound system with the tv. The sound system receiver has rca slots. How does the connection work?

I'd go with that recommendation too, works fine -- just had to buy a good quality adapter cable (RCA red & white to stereo 3.5mm jack-plug).

Set the audio output to fixed in the TV audio menu and use the remote of the Pioneer for volume control.
If you want or need to use the TV remote to adjust volume you may overload the input of the Pioneer if the TV volume is set too high. That would cause distorted sound regardless of the volume setting on the Pioneer. Back down the volume of the TV and turn up the volume of the Pioneer to avoid this.

Thanks for the answers. I also have an older model DVD player that came with the surround sound system. How do I get the dvd signals out to the tv? Thanks!
