Here is my issue. I have a Toshiba: Satellite. The speakers work fine. Typically, when I would plug in my headphones, the audio would mute on the exterior speakers and channel the sound to the headphones instead. Lately this has changed. Now when I plug in my headphones BOTH sets of speakers are pumping out sound. How do I restore this to the old setting, where when headphones are plugged in I only get sound out of them?

Solution
Try this...

NOTE: Make sure the headphones are connected when doing this...

1. Go into "Control Panel" and then "Sound".
2. On the "Playback" tab you should see the headphones and the speakers listed.
3. Right click on the "Headphones" in the list and choose "Set as Default Device".
4. Then unplug the headphones and right click on the speakers making sure they now say they are the default device.
5. Now the speakers should turn off when the headphones are plugged in.
