Auto shutdown when lid is open

Hi all, when I turn on my laptop the bios screen appears and shuts down automatically in a second. This happens only wen the lid is open. If I turn on the laptop and close the lid, it works fine which I checked by plugging it into TV. The moment I open the lid slightly it shuts off abruptly. Any solutions..

At first logic, the screen may be drawing an unordinary amount of energy to cause the shutdown.

Sounds like a defect with the video cable and/or screen. You'd have to inspect, and possibly replace, one of them - if not both - and then test again. If it continues to happen from there, it's likely a board problem.

Strange issue, though... Which laptop is this?

Thx for the input. After few attempts( with lid open), now the laptop randomly shuts off after few minutes. Mostly in bios screen and few times after few minutes loading into windows. Twice after abrupt shuts off it starts automatically without me pressing ON button.

It's kind of sounding more like a motherboard defect. Hard to really pinpoint it, though. If it's not under warranty, you may need to bring it to a competent technician/good local repair shop so that they can inspect and test the hardware.
