avira internet security - cannot start mail protection

I recently installed avira internet security and it's worked like a charm up until now. I noticed the umbrella icon in the bottom right had turned to a closed umbrella. I hovered my cursor over it and it says that mail protection has stopped. All other components are working fine. I looked at services.msc and tried to start the service but i got this error: "windows could not start the avira mail protection on local computer. for more info, review tge system event log. If this is a non microsoft service (it is) contact the system vendor and refer to service specific code 1.

Cab anyone help me please?

Honestly, I used to think Avira was a good product, but then started seeing similar issues. A reinstall would fix it, but that shouldn't be necessary. I switched to Avast.
