You are wrong.

Delorean DMC12 was a flop, yes, and Delorean went bust in 1982 - 3 years before Back to the Future was released. After the movie, whoever wanted to buy the car had to resort to 2nd hand, and prices skyrocketed. It became a legendary, very hard to find, car.

If Delorean was still on sale by the time the movie was released, I bet it would have saved the company.

I doubt that as most likely the reason why the movie studio chose the DeLorean in the first place was that they didn't have to pay royalties to a bankrupt, non-existent company.

Cars don't have to be "exotic" to have fiberglass, carbon fiber or plastic body panels. Saturn was very well known for their use of plastic body panels. The Corvettes have used Fiberglass, plastic and Carbon Fiber for the bodywork over the last 58 years.

Actually, the production company had to pay royalties to John DeLorean for use of the car, logo and brand name.

Surely the same could be said for the paint that goes on top of metal?
If you get hit by lightning it burns through both to hit the conductive loveliness underneath
