I would like to get a set of PC speakers. I would prefer with two speakers and a subwoofer. What are some good bang-for-your-buck speakers?

Solution
bang for your buck does not give us a budget.

for instance there are speakers for under $50 which are good deals for that money, speakers under $200 which are good deals for the money, etc.

z313 for its extremely low price is not bad. its not excellent but will get you through a bind. the more expensive 2.1 systems are somewhat better.

creative has some good choices as well. the a250 is good value also.

while the x-series was good, you may not want to try and find/buy used.

if you have a higher budget, the soundsticks III and creative creature III are decent pc speakers. the higher end creative/logitech models are decent value.
That article is definitely a good start and their recommendations are pretty solid. I can support their recommendation of the Creative A250 2.1 System, the audio is very clear but the sub-woofer could back a better punch (is loud enough to enjoy but could be better). I also have a Logitech Z313 and definitely don't buy it, audio is a bit muffled and sub-woofer is no-where near what it's rating implies (about as strong as the A250).

In addition to this, if you can get your hands on a Logitech X-230 and you want a lot of bass, do it. The bass on these is crazy considering the sub is rated at 24W (I think, it's around 20W's) and the satellites are also pretty good. I would recommend either the Logitech X-230 (if you're okay with buying used) or the Creative A250 (if you want new). Can't go wrong with either.
