[citation][nom]TekkWolf[/nom]Where else can I buy a $9.99 hdmi cable for $50.00?[/citation]
Worst place to get a 50ft cat5e cable also. What I got for that $60 online was, 2 50ft, 2 25ft and 2 6ft and 2 3ft cat 6s, all great quality and well shielded.

I used to purchase things at BB. They used to have a "we'll refund to match any local ad price". After buying a modem there, I found it across town for about ~$10 cheaper, yet they would not honor their price warranty. So, have not been there again in over 15 years. Not surprised that they are having problems.

Did a similar thing with Sony / BMG. After the rootkit fiasco in 2005, I decided to never buy another Sony product ever. Since then, I buy only used Sony backed CD's.

[citation][nom]Mathos[/nom]Whats killed BB in the brick and mortar level is piss poor store management and a poor business model for worker pay. I remember all kinda stuff about 1 of the store assistants boinking a few of the female employers on a regular basis for example.[/citation]
Huh? Sounds like a good worker pay model to me...

We still need them around, but only for price matching against other stores.

About two weeks ago, I bought a plasma TV from Video Only (VO) after I walked in there with BB for the same television. VO beat BB's ad and took an additional $80 off. This is not meant to be a plug for VO, but it is my experience.

I did walk into BB and asked them to compete with VO, which they refused to do (same parking lot). They had some PFY working in their TV section that was unable to describe the difference between plasma and LCD TV. I found myself reading the labels and telling this sales person what it meant, which was met with a shrug. -Crap like this is why BB doomed.

[citation][nom]wildkitten[/nom]I am actually surprised HHGregg wasn't mentioned as a competitor. Where I live it is a very popular alternative to Best Buy that's seriously hurting BB.[/citation]
Where I live, HHGreg isn't even competition for RadioShack. Their selection sucks, their staff is rude, untrained and are more than willing to lie to get a sale. I walked in there during their "Grand Opening" looking for a 32" Panasonic Viera TV that was "on sale" for $299. They were already sold out, so I asked when they'd be getting more in. The "salesman" (who I honestly believe used to sell used cars....) told me that they wouldn't be getting any more in due to Panasonic cancelling their TV line. He claimed that they managed to get the last batch of Panasonic TV's to be made. The guy at BestBuy couldn't stop laughing when I told him about it....nor could the guy in the Walmart electronics department (where I ended up buying my TV for 50% less than HHGreg wanted for it during their "sale").

I walked in there in August 2010 looking for an HDMI cable. The salesman told me that I had to buy a $120 "Monster" HDMI cable because it was the only one on the market that works for 1080P. Walmart sells that same cable for $50 every day.... He was also dumb enough to tell me that HDMI 1.3 devices are completely incompatible with HDMI 1.4 devices.

Also, my wife's laptop was $300 more during HHGreg's "black friday sale"....than it was at Walmart at full price....

So, where's the competition? I find it hard to believe that the pricing scheme my local HHGreg uses only applies at my local store. I have yet to find anything at HHGreg (of what I've looked for there) that isn't at least 25% cheaper at BB.

Well, it's vastly different where I live. HHGregg has been nothing but very nice and their prices always beats Best Buy's. Best Buy used to be a very good place to shop, but it seems once Circuit City went out of business, their standards went into decline. Not to mention Geek Squad being completely disreputable.

best buy has one reason and one reason alone for why i despise them...

they don't fufill preorder obligations.

you pre order, or in my case, pre buy an item (an item only best buy is selling) they will fill their stores with the product before they will send out preorder anything, luckily in my case i wanst on a 1-3 month back order, but their preorders aren't a first come first serve either.

I do believe Mr. Dunn and some of his crew toured our facility a year or two ago to see how a cutting edge distribution facility operates. And the workforce we can employ as a result.

I buy very little from Best Buy. Their pricing is a bit high (which I really don't mind paying to help my fellow American keep a job), and the stores are too small for the variety they want to offer.

Sears was actually much hungrier for my $$ a year ago when I did up an entertainment room. The Samsung TV and Samsung blu-ray I was looking for wasn't available from BB (even though they advertised it). The Sears locator showed both at my 2'nd closest brick & mortar, and when cashing me out, the TV was 25 bucks cheaper than advertised as they were clearing out that model. Plus the TV was cheaper at Sears before the additional discount.

They also lost a PC sale in December. I go in there and all they have are these wimpy things meant for AOL and Facebook. Nothing with some horsepower. A quick search on my phone and I remembered a local PC business a couple towns over. Got a very competent gaming rig for probably the same price as BB's most expensive toaster oven sized PC.

Best Buy needs to blow out into a Wal-Mart or Sam's Club sized store, and stock a wider variety at better prices or they WILL die. Circuit City in my area was replaced by PC Richards, which sucks equally. They'll be dead soon too.

ROFL. When WoW Cataclysm came out, me and my friend looked everywhere for a store that didn't have a long ass line of people waiting to get the game....

Guess where we found nobody was buying the game at?
Our local Best Buy....
I even bagged one of the Collectors' Edition's when I asked him if he had any. He said sure, have it....
I was so happy.

But this just shows how far down the mountain Best Buy has come...

I worked for one of the better stores but some stuff really turned me off. Service plans were and continue to be a scam. How it's continued to be sold is a mystery to me. It's true that sales staff are not commissioned, but it is not true that the sales process is pressure free. We had daily sales numbers to hit, and if we didn't it was "uncomfortable" - so yeah, if you really think about it, pressure based on fear is far worse than pressure based on the desire to make extra cash on the sale, so in reality the BB model is even more negative than the commission model. The mark-ups on "accessories" is the bread-and-butter of the retail industry. Without the 80% markup on that USB or HDMI cables, the stores would close. One thing that I will not accept is that most people think that BB employees are young stupid kids. This is not the case (for the most part). All the sales team members at the store I was at were educated and sensible - and trust me, normal customers we treated right, it's those jerks who thought they knew everything (but knew nothing) that ended up with all those extra cables they didn't need and the service plan on that nasty crappy dell laptop...that broke in 4 months but the warranty was void and the service plan didn't cover the 'superficial' damage.

If I can find something that's similarly priced to online vendors at Best Buy, it's worth taking the drive. It's in a HUGE mall (carousel center in syracuse, NY) and always gives me a reason to do other things. I managed to find A corsair CWCH 60 closed loop cooling, and Klipsch 2.1 pc speakers for a reasonable price.

The liquid cooling loop was like 59.99 on sale, and the klipsch speakers were something like 119.99 on sale.

All in all, I saved a few pennies, which is rare at BB. What's funny is, I end up making a better sales rep. in the pc area than most of the employees, and geek squad. :-/

[citation][nom]whysobluepandabear[/nom]No one enjoys helping retard consumers. This country, as a whole, has fallen down in terms of common sense, and general intelligence. Stupid people REALLY ruin my day sometimes - and I can't fake it, or be happy when they're around; I just want to kill them (sometimes literally). If someone has the brain to comprehend, and possibly learn a concept, I am more than happy to spread my knowledge - but when they lack even the most basic, and primitive concepts, I can't tolerate it. How the hell do some people make it by in everyday life, being as stupid as they are? They have degrees no less.....who the hell certified and awarded them those? Let alone, who gave them driver licenses?[/citation]
