I guess compared to Lenovo, I would be sacrificing build quality. I wonder to what extend...

If I knew that price difference, even without a dGPU, all went into quality components of that Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 4, I would still choose it.


Not sure why, but even though this MSI is so much better deal (spec-wise), it strikes me as something that can break quickly. I mean it has much better hardware so they had to save their money somewhere. Unless Lenovo is just charging more for worse hardware.


Also, I have learnt that you are meant to clean laptops regularly lol. I've never done it, and my brother? Absolutely no way he has ever done it.

I do use my vacuum cleaner from time to time and suck what I can out of vents of my super old PC, and some old Dell laptop which I barely use, but I've never opened a laptop, and to be honest I don't think I would ever do it. Maybe after a few years after warranty expiration and some performance issues I would force myself to do it.


I mean how do companies expect consumers to clean them if they cannot open them up without voiding their warranties?

I read some posts, and even ASUS_USA chimed in that you actually can.

I would still not risk it though as stores like to use everything they can just not to repair it. A bit of a grey area, so to speak/

Personally, I would not recommend MSI. Asus builds better systems, if you are looking at other options.

What do you think of looking into some gaming laptops that offer better specs (mainly better CPU) for the money compared to that Lenovo I've linked?

I'm rather anxious about getting a gaming laptop even with much better specs (mainly better CPU & dGPU) for the same money. I feel like I would be sacrificing a lot of build quality compared to that Thinkpad. I'm just speculating though.

Lenovo might as well have the similar build quality, and just charge more for less.

Their both rather flat, and I heard some stories about Thinkpad heating up, mostly because of some drivers issue.


Theoretically a gaming laptop should have much better cooling system as its usual work would be round gaming that's quite demanding.

It's so hard to compare those arbitrary things without having them next to each other and ideally using at least those 30 days.

A gaming laptop can be well built and last for years. Gaming laptops tend to have poor battery life, and can run hot when put under heavy load, like during long gaming sessions. In some ways, gaming laptops are similar to workstation class laptops especially when a dGPU is considered.

Regarding the HP you linked, there have been mixed reviews of the Omens by end users.

My recommendation is to focus on the ways the new laptop will be used and focus on those things.

But the main reason I'm interested in it is the 'improved' airflow with so many vents all round. He might not be using that dGPU for his work, but that improved ventilation might come in handy.

Unfortunately that Thinkpad is a slim version so it's a bit squished. There are also reports of it running hot, though mainly because some drivers' issue.

Hey, people. My brother and I went with:

Lenovo ThinkPad P16 G2 i7-14700HX / 64 GB / 1 TB / W11 Pro / RTX 2000 Ada / 165 Hz (21FA005LPB)

I think it was the best choice. Could it be done cheaper? Probably, but it was still the best deal I could think of/made research of and we got it right before RAM crisis so it was much cheaper than it is now.

I cannot tell anything good/bad about it since I'm not using it but I'll make sure to let know if anything comes up, etc.

Whenever I ask my bro about it, he says it's fine. Obviously if you don't have at least another option to compare it to, it's hard to know but even months after I still have that gut feeling it was the best decision we could do.

It was the flagship as well so... Super happy with that choice.
